Comment by Gail November 20, 2007 @ 9:17 pmWhen asked for permission to share her initial report, here’s Vickie’s response: Yes, but forget what I said about being “pain free” … that frickin’ Mack truck showed up early this morning and mowed my slow ass down, crutches and all.
Initial report:I’m home and relatively pain free … taking Demerol and Phenergan, but as long as it works, I don’t care what it is! Surgery was basically uneventful and I was home by noon. They cleaned up the torn edge meniscus, did a lateral release (which allows the knee cap to track correctly), scraped arthritis off the back of the knee cap, and did small area of micro-fracture. Evidently, the micro-fracture is in a place where there’s not a lot of contact between surfaces — which means I’ll most likely be on crutches around two weeks (+/-). Instructions were weight-bearing as tolerated once I get past Wednesday (which is when the local anesthesia wears off).
Doc did say I’d probably be looking at a knee replacement “down the road” … will clarify how long that “road” might be when I go back in for my 10-day suture removal. The anesthesiologist said most people get sick from the gas that is used, not the IV drugs. Since I had a “local under heavy sedation,” no gas was needed and I actually feel pretty good and with a clear head for thoughts (unlike past surgeries).
