Way to Go!

I just finished this little gem, written by my fav, Pat McConnell and her friend Karen London. In clear precise words, they put into words so many of the things we ‘dog people’ do instinctually when teaching puppies…and, then, neglect to pass on to puppy buyers.

Susan wonders…@ dog stairs

Now that Raji has recovered, I need to find a better way for her to get
up onto the bed than leaping from the side.
The bed is high off the ground  — 32″ or so.
Rinchen jumps onto the cedar chest at the bottom of the bed and up from
there.
Sammy and Pony jump onto a shorter hamper [...]

Interesting books from Dogwise

Most of you receiving this weekly update are successful at training dogs – at least your own, right? Training someone else to train his or her dog – or how to deal with their dog’s behavioral problems – is a significantly more challenging endeavor, however. Fortunately the human side of the equation is being increasingly [...]

Good dog, bad dog…Stella

Following in sync with our current Good Dog, Bad Dog discussion, last week I received a Good Stella Dog note.
Followed a week later with this:
Hi, Debby –  I need some advice from you.  Our lovely little dog has developed a nasty habit and I cannot figure out why, nor can I figure out what to do [...]

Katy on..male dogs and marking

With Katy’s permission, I open this topic for discussion. It’s an important, practical topic and I wanted it available for future reference. Ah! One of the many things I love about blog technology! The search bar! I’ll follow up, in the comment section, with my response and her return response. Both Katy and I welcome [...]

Grooming With Grace

In this Year Of The Dog Training, I’ve had a most unexpected pleasure. Over the years I’ve attended a fair number of Puppy Kindergarten classes, including some offered now and again ‘up here’ in the mountains. Those ‘up here’ were always a crap shoot. Only once did the instructor have more than rudimentary knowledge. Still, even [...]

Kick it up a notch!

For those taking the FFT A Title At Both Ends Challenge, this kicks up it up a notch! Or 50.

Anxiety Wrap

Here’s another ad I found very interesting. Years ago Dr. Temple Grandin, bestselling author and consultant to the livestock industry in animal behavior, recognized the benefits of ‘tight’ spaces when dealing with anxiety. There are a number of testimonials, along with lots of information at www.anxietywrap.com

Read me a story!

Written by Jason McKinney, this was published in the Spring 2008 issue of The Colorado Dog Magazine.
Woof! Woof! Read me a story!
One of the most difficult things for a child learning to read can be the self-consciousness felt when reading aloud to others. The ARF program (Afternoon Reading Fun) helps to alleviate this problem by [...]

Debby on…a Sunday morning

I should be getting my tax stuff together. There’s no reward in doing that. I won’t be getting money back. If I don’t, however, I’ll be punished. The IRS has punished me enough, thank you. I certainly don’t want them in my life, on my back, again. So, I’ll do it. I’ll do it with [...]
