Mary’s Moka

Hi Debby, thought I’d send a couple pics of the puppy I have from Melissa’s/Josie’s liter…….you probably know but she’s Shot in the Dark, AKA Moka.    A moka is an Italian coffee pot used on a stove, makes shots of expresso.  “all is moka,” means all is good.   I searched hard for an appropriate name.   Too much for me.

She is a happy girl and has learned the rule of Lhasa seniority very well.   It is amazing to watch how the very old can teach the very young.   She bows to Taz when he crosses her path as he doesn’t tolerate young hyperactive movement.  She’s all over Roman; he is just starting to chase, play with her.  Taz will occasionally give her an arthritic chase; she’s learned not to run into his face!!   She does a fast reverse run.  It’s funny to watch the 2 males, the relationship reminds me of a general and his soldier…………Roman often looks to Taz for direction on how to interact with her……….he doesn’t give the correction, Taz does.  I have learned how strong their bond to each other is.  She hasn’t quite figured out the role of a cat but has learned not to torment too close.  I have 2 ragdolls, about 20 lbs.  who will turn and correct her and a 6 lb. domestic short hair who will give her a verbal tongue lashing for bad behavior.  She doesn’t quite get cat lingo but knows a hiss is a warning and it’s time to change direction.

Moka’s a lot of fun and adds some smiles to the day.

Dawa and Karma

From Rod:

Hi Debby,

I wanted to let you know the little girl went in for her surgery this week.  Dr. O’Brien thought now was the time, she came home Wednesday night with some pain but after the first dose of medication she soon relaxed and went to sleep.  Today she is up and about like nothing happen but we are keeping her from getting to active for the next several days.

We took the boy in for his summer hair cut and when Olga went to pick him up she barely could recognize him.  Needless to say we were not too pleased with the way the groom cut him and I must say he was very unhappy about it as well.  We could not get him to go outside and he was having accidents in the house so we had to revert back to the puppy training methods again.  His hair is starting to grow back now some and I jokingly call him our Chia Pup.  I would suspect he will be back to his full coat by October.  Here is a picture of both after his cut and the second is of the girl on graduation day from puppy training.  Take care!

Good dog, bad dog…Stella

Following in sync with our current Good Dog, Bad Dog discussion, last week I received a Good Stella Dog note.

Followed a week later with this:

Hi, Debby –  I need some advice from you.  Our lovely little dog has developed a nasty habit and I cannot figure out why, nor can I figure out what to do about it!  She is eating her own poop as fast as it leaves her little body!  Have you ever encountered this, and if so, do you have any suggestions as to what to do about it?

My response: Well, that is a perplexing problem! I see this behavior now and again with mother dogs, which is surely related to the ‘keep the den clean’ instinct. Wonder if she’s going through some hormonal change…. ???  I’m going to post this on the blog, along with the update you sent last week. There’s a fount of knowledge among the people. There’s a fount of knowledge and experience. Maybe we’ll all learn something, especially a solution to this unpleasant habit!

Okay, Apso Bloggers! Any ideas? Personal experiences? Solutions?

Stella…

I thought you’d enjoy these photos … a dog just ran past and Murphy and Katie tore out the doggy door – poor little Bitsy/Stella came running back to me so I let her out, too.  She’s a little intimidated by the door!  Anyway, they were running up and down the deck.  I tried to get a good one of all three of them, but that one is a little dark and I should have used telephoto.

Hope all is well with you.  Things are going well here.  The dogs are playing together much of the time – especially Bitsy and Katie – they are becoming buddies.  Sometimes Murphy decides to join in, but other times he acts like he thinks he’s above all that.
